Build the plan in five calm steps
Name the positive purpose
Let each family member name what better technology use should make room for: prayer, study, sleep, responsibilities, relationships, service, creativity, or quiet recreation. Write those purposes at the top of the plan.
Choose a few visible household boundaries
Decide together where devices sleep, which spaces remain screen-free, when private browsing is unnecessary, and which apps or communities create more risk than value. Keep the list short enough to remember.
Match each boundary with a practical control
Turn on SafeSearch, sensitive-content controls, app limits, and adult-site filters. Keep administrator credentials outside everyday use. Preserve access needed for school, work, health, communication, and worship.
Define emergency access before it is needed
Write what qualifies as urgent, who may approve access, what specific app or site is needed, and when the boundary returns. Use a one-hour delay for nonurgent changes so an impulse does not become an instant settings change.
Review the plan without shame
Hold a short weekly check-in. Ask what worked, what useful access was blocked, and what new pattern needs attention. Make it safe to report a mistake or unexpected page early instead of hiding it.
